Student Visa Application - What is required ?

This section gives brief and general information on the visa application process. As requirements are frequently updated, potential students are advised to check their criteria on the official government website (www.studyinaustralia.gov.au).

UPC via the General Agent in your country will provide general instruction and assistance for you to proceed with the visa application after your application for study at UPC is accepted. There is no guarantee from UPC for the visa to be granted by DIAC as there are other requirements that students need to meet.

In general, as an overseas student, you must obtain a student visa before you can commence a course of study in Australia. These courses have to be registered and approved under the Commonwealth Registers of Institutions and Courses for Overseas Students (CRICOS) which are under strict quality monitoring and control by the government.

If you come to Australia on a student visa you are entitled to:
  • have access to Australia's subsidised student health cover while in Australia,

  • be able to study for more than three months (English, vocational or degree programs at TAFE colleges, institutes or universities)

  • apply for permission to work (for a maximum of 20 hours per week).

If your nationality is assessed as Level 3 or Level 4, you can only apply for a student visa after receiving a letter of offer for registered full-time courses in Australia. You should contact the Australian government representatives in your country for more information on the following criteria:

  • Visa sub-classes for each education sector  You should apply under the visa sub-class for your principal course of study.  These classes cover English, school, vocational or non-awarded courses.

  • Assessment levels Each education sector in each country is ranked according to five assessment levels. For students of higher levels (Level 4 or 5) you are required to demonstrate evidence of your financial capability and English proficiency to follow the intended courses.

  • Financial Issues

According to the instruction given and updated on the Department of Immigration's website

The student's family has to show evidence of financial capability to support him or her throughout the course of study. The requirement is more stringent as the assessment level goes up from Level 1 to Level 5.
