Universities offer a wide range of programs for students who wish to obtain a degree at bachelor, masters or doctorate levels. There are minimum entry requirements set by individual universities for their appropriate bachelor degree programs, based on the HSC results. Certain degree programs such as law and medicine are in high demand and students have to get top marks in their HSC before being considered.
Screening tests are also conducted by prestigious universities. If you do not meet their entry requirement, most universities provide you with a "bridging" course which is called the Foundation Year, after which you are qualified for admission to their degree programs.
International students can prepare for university entry by coming to Australia to study for Year 11 and Year 12 of high school. They will have to sit for the HSC exams in the same manner as local students, from which university programs can be decided based on the HSC results.
An attractive alternative to two years study at High School HSC is to enter the UPC Pre-Foundation Program, after finishing the equivalent of Year 11. Depending on their English proficiency, students can follow different pathways to achieve the final goal of university entry. We explain this in the Courses/Pathways section.
Associated with UNSW Foundation Year, UPC will provide preparation in English and other specific training requirements for students to start their exciting study life in Australia. From Foundation Year, students can choose to stay with UNSW degree programs or move to 38 other universities in Australia and many more in New Zealand, the UK and Canada.
The
University of New South Wales (UNSW) is one of the leaders in the Group of Eight universities in Australia. Within its population of over 40,000 approximately
one in five students is from overseas. This represents the largest intake and
ratio of overseas students in Australia. UNSW's good name started in the late 1950's as a popular and prestigious destination for country-sponsored
students from all around Asia who came to study here.
